4. Environment

4.1 About ambient temperature and environment

Please note that the ambient temperature of the place of use should not exceed the value specified in the product manual.

In addition, if there is a lot of dust in the surrounding environment, or there is water vapor, sulfide gas (SO2, H2S, etc.) or organic gas, sulfide film, oxide film or dust will be formed on the contact surface, which will cause unstable contact and contact Failure, so please choose a sealed relay, if you choose a plastic-encapsulated relay, you need to test and confirm in actual use.

4.2 Gases harmful to relays

Please avoid using the relay in environments containing the following gases. In these environments, plastic-encapsulated relays cannot avoid the influence of these gases on the contacts. Please use sealed relays.

4.2.1 Silicon environment

If there are silicon-based substances (such as silicon rubber, silicone oil, silicon-based paint, silicon filler, etc.) around the relay, they will generate silicon-containing volatile gas, which may cause silicon to adhere to the contacts and cause poor contact.

4.2.2 Sulfur gas (SO2, H2S)

The sulfide gas is easy to vulcanize the contacts, resulting in poor contact or non-conduction.

4.2.3 Nitrogen oxide gas (NOx)

If the load that is prone to arcing is turned on and off in a high humidity environment, the NOx generated by the arc will react with the moisture absorbed from the outside to form nitric acid, which will corrode the internal metal parts and impede the operation of the relay. Do not use in an environment with a humidity higher than 85%RH (value at 85°C).

4.2.3 In the environment of water, medicine, solvent, and oil

Please do not use or store the relay in an environment where the relay will be attached to water, chemicals, solvents, oils, etc., because water and chemicals will cause corrosion of parts, aging of plastics, and leakage damage to the relay or circuit. Thinners and oils will cause damage. The mark disappears or the parts are aged. , For relays using PC shells, some organic solvents will cause the shell to swell and crack.

4.3 Environment during use, storage and transportation

When using, storing, and transporting, please avoid direct sunlight, and keep it at room temperature, humidity, and pressure. The temperature and humidity ranges that can be used, transported, and stored are shown in the non-shaded area in Figure 17. The allowable temperature varies with the type of relay. However, when the use environmental conditions are different from the electrical endurance test conditions specified in IEC61810-1, UL508, UL60947-4-1, GB/T21711.1 and other standards, the number of electrical endurance needs to be confirmed by specific tests.

Environment

The recommended temperature and humidity ranges for use, transportation and storage are:

1) Temperature: 0°C~40°C

2) Humidity: 5%RH~85%RH

3) Air pressure: 86kPa~106kPa

4.4.1 High humidity environment

In a high-humidity environment, when the surrounding temperature changes rapidly, condensation may form inside the relay, which may cause deterioration of the relay's insulation, wire breakage, and rust. A typical example of such an environment is on a ship for maritime transportation.

Condensation refers to the phenomenon that water vapor condenses and turns into water droplets when the temperature changes rapidly from high temperature to low temperature in a high humidity environment, or when the relay is rapidly moved from low temperature to high temperature.

4.4.2 Low temperature environment below 0°C

Please be aware of icing in a low temperature environment below 0°C. Icing may cause malfunctions such as adhesion of moving parts, delayed action, or hindered movement.

Icing refers to the phenomenon that the moisture attached to the relay condenses into ice when the temperature drops below the freezing point in the environment of condensation and abnormal high humidity.

4.4.3 Low temperature, low humidity and humidity environment

Please note that in low temperature and low humidity environments, plastics may become brittle.

4.4.4 High temperature and high humidity environment

Please note that when the relay is exposed to high temperature and high humidity for a long time (including during transportation), oxide film is easily formed on the contact surface, resulting in unstable contact and contact failure. Other metal parts are also prone to oxidation or rust, resulting in functional failure .

4.4.5 Environment of surface mount type (SMT type) relay

SMT type relays are sensitive to humidity, so they use moisture-proof packaging. Please pay attention to the following points when storing:

(1) After opening the moisture-proof packaging bag, please use it as soon as possible.

(2) For long-term storage after opening the moisture-proof packaging bag, it is recommended to use a desiccator with humidity control.
